Among our achievements since starting operations in early 2008, we have:
-
Procured 15 recycling bins for glass, plastic and metal beverage containers in the pedestrian-friendly areas of Bethesda Row, Woodmont Triangle and Metro Center in downtown Bethesda.
- Introduced green initiatives with partners to purchase clean energy, conduct home energy audits, reuse crayons for kids and recycle toner cartridge for businesses.
-
Organized E-cycling days in partnership with Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection collecting tons of old TVs, microwaves, and computers.
-
Launched a biodiesel fuel research project with Montgomery County, surveying restaurants about using their grease and cooking oil as a potential source of biodiesel fuel.
-
Created local green jobs by hosting a Green Business Incubator as part of the Montgomery County Economic Development efforts.
-
Connected urban and rural communities by organizing a Farm Tour to the Montgomery County Agriculture Reserve, showing some of our local and organic food sources.
-
Received Green Business Certification from Montgomery County, one of the first businesses and organizations in the area to be so recognized.
Bethesda Green invites local businesses, government employees, and members of the larger community to get involved. The recently redesigned office space is an educational community center showcasing green products and services. Building on existing networks, we create a "multiplier" effect to achieve greater results and help make Bethesda a leader in environmental sustainability.
Bethesda Green is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization and depends upon the philanthropic support of corporations, businesses, foundations and individuals to realize the vision of making Bethesda a model for sustainable economic growth and living practices.
