How did you get involved with Bethesda Green?
I graduated May 2009 from The George Washington University and decided to take a year off before pursuing a master’s degree in urban planning. I have always been interested in sustainability and “going green,” so I was looking for something related that was fulfilling and interesting. I felt that Bethesda Green was a great organization that could give me work experience, help me make new connections, and contribute to an important cause.
What kind of work do you do at BG?
I am involved in several different areas of work at BG, all of which have given me new and interesting work experiences. Currently, I assist in managing the 10 companies that are part of our incubator program through scheduling office space, sending out updates, and serving as a point of contact for any inquiries and administrative questions. I also work with the education, outreach, and marketing team by managing our email database, helping create the monthly e-newsletter, and assist in updating various sections of the website. Additionally, I have helped plan various Bethesda Green events, including our center launch last October.
What have you gotten out of your experience at BG so far?
It has been inspiring to be surrounded by and work with so many different people who have committed so much of their time, effort, and resources to creating a sustainable community. The projects I have been involved in, the various events I’ve attended, and the people I’ve made new relationships with have truly made my time at BG worthwhile. From learning how to make my home more energy efficient, to being part of the daily operations of a non-profit organization, I have gained valuable experience from volunteering at Bethesda Green that will certainly stay with me into the future.
